Statement on Vehicle Crash into Shrewsbury Police Station
Jan 19, 2026

UPDATE: NEPBA can now confirm that the crash into the Shrewsbury Police Station was deliberate and intentional.
Police have identified the driver as Robert McCluskey, 58, of Shrewsbury, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital with injuries. Fortunately, no officers, staff, or members of the public were injured.
Reports also site witness statements alleging the suspect expressed a desire to be shot by police, a disturbing detail that underscores the volatile and dangerous realities officers face and the intentional risk this individual allegedly sought to create for responding personnel.
Let there be no misunderstanding: anyone willing to attempt to take the lives of law enforcement officers, or force officers into a deadly encounter, is not only committing a violent criminal act. They are attacking the people who stand between communities and chaos, and they are endangering civilian employees and emergency communications professionals whose job is to keep the public safe.
NEPBA stands firmly with the men and women of the Shrewsbury Police Department and commends their professionalism, swift response, and discipline under extraordinary and unpredictable circumstances. We also recognize the dispatchers and staff who were directly impacted by this targeted act of violence.
This matter remains under active investigation. At this time, the front lobby of Police Headquarters remains closed. Individuals wishing to file a police report should contact the Shrewsbury Police Department business line at 508-845-1212. In the event of an emergency, please dial 911.
