Statement in Solidarity with the PBA of the City of New York

Feb 25, 2026

The New England Police Benevolent Association (NEPBA) unequivocally stands with our brothers and sisters of the NYC Police Benevolent Association in condemning the attack on New York City police officers who were responding to calls for public safety in Washington Square Park, during which they were pelted with snowballs and struck with frozen projectiles. Several officers were injured and required hospital treatment as a result of this assault.

There is nothing “harmless” about intentionally throwing objects, including packed snow and ice, at on-duty police officers. This conduct is an assault on those sworn to protect and serve and constitutes a dangerous escalation that threatens the safety of law enforcement and the public alike. Officers should never be subjected to violence while performing their duties, and there must be accountability for those responsible.

We commend the officers for their professionalism under duress and the NYPD’s ongoing investigation into this matter. We call on all city, county, and state leaders, including elected officials and prosecutors, to unequivocally condemn these actions, support full prosecution of those responsible, and reaffirm that violence against law enforcement is unacceptable in any form.

The NEPBA stands in solidarity with the PBA and all law enforcement professionals who face dangerous conditions in the line of duty each and every day. We will continue to advocate for the safety, respect, and support that our members and all officers deserve.
