Candidate Spotlight: Claude Weyant for Windsor County Sheriff

The New England Police Benevolent Association (NEPBA) is proud to endorse Claude Weyant for Windsor County Sheriff.For our members throughout Vermont, we believe it is important to understand why NEPBA chose to support Acting Sheriff Weyant in this year's election.
Weyant brings more than 42 years of law enforcement experience to the position and has spent over two decades serving the Windsor County Sheriff's Office. During that time, he has held numerous leadership roles, including Captain and second-in-command, overseeing department operations, deputy supervision, budgeting, scheduling, and day-to-day administration.
At a time when law enforcement agencies face unprecedented challenges in recruitment, retention, training, and public safety, NEPBA believes experience matters. Leading a sheriff's office requires more than good intentions, it requires a proven record of command leadership, sound judgment, and an understanding of the realities facing today's law enforcement professionals.
Throughout his career, Weyant has demonstrated that leadership. His campaign emphasizes fiscal responsibility, support for deputies, accountability, and maintaining a professional Sheriff's Office that effectively serves the people of Windsor County. He has also remained committed to community policing and youth engagement through programs such as D.A.R.E., reflecting his belief that strong relationships with the public are essential to effective law enforcement.
After meeting with Acting Sheriff Weyant, NEPBA was impressed by his thoughtful approach to the issues that matter most to our members. His decades of service, institutional knowledge, and command experience provide a level of preparedness that is difficult to replicate and position him to lead the Sheriff's Office from day one.
